How Can I Make Learning About Feast Days Fun and Effective?

Sunday, April 13, 2025

Background

The feast days introduced in the Old Testament are rich with meaning and foreshadowing toward Jesus, but how can teachers of little ones make learning about feast days fun while also helping them remember those connections?

Here are some activities I have created for teachers to give students of various ages and abilities an interactive lesson that will help them remember the feast days while also teaching them about Jesus as the fulfillment of the promises made by God through those feasts.

"Yeah all that's great... just give me the goods!"

OK, OK! Here's a .ZIP file containing all the activities.

"Actually, I only need activities for <insert grade-level here> classes. Whachu got?"

Select your grade to scroll straight to activities appropriate to your students' level:

Nursery/Pre-K

Velcro Activity

Students have Velcro-backed pictures that they can place on the backgrounds of the proper feast days or their symbolic counterparts.

Pre-K through 1st Grade

Coloring Sheets

Students can color the sheets as their teacher explains to them the feast days and their connections to Christ.

1st-4th Grade

Match Game Activity

Students play a "Memory"-style card game where they turn over a card containing either the feast or the symbolic connection to Jesus, and then they must turn over the card that corresponds to it. Successful matches can either result in the student taking another turn or another student taking a turn.

Student Sheet Creation Activity

Students cut and/or paste the images from the right side onto the left side to match the teacher's example while listening to the tecaher's explanations of the feast and its symbolic connection to Christ.

 Student Booklet Activity

Students create their own booklets explaining the feast days and their connections to Christ.

Conclusion

Hopefully these activities will help make learning about the feast days more fun and effective! If you have questions about how to implement any of this, or have feedback on how to make it even better, please drop a comment or send me an email.
