Ministry of Reconciliation

Ministry of Reconciliation

“But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and gave unto us the ministry of reconciliation…” (2 Corinthians 5:18).

The “ministry of reconciliation” is a responsibility to teach the “word of reconciliation” (v.19) to others, whether they are believers or unbelievers. Every Christian is to be a part of this ministry. As 2 Timothy 2:2 mentions, those who are faithful should “teach others also”.

Specifically, there are ministers who teach the word of reconciliation as Romans 10:14 says, “how shall they hear without a preacher?” Scripture teaches those who minister in the work of teaching the gospel of reconciliation can receive financial support from brethren (1 Corinthians 9; 2 Corinthians 11:8,9;  Philippians 4:15-17). Since one of the commands given to the church is teaching the gospel (Ephesians 4:11-13;  1 Thessalonians 1), it is of God, we, the church at Veterans Parkway financially support those who labor in teaching the gospel.

The financial support given does not go through a ministry agency or missionary organization for funds to be distributed to ministers of the gospel. From biblical examples, the funds for every minister were given directly to him for his daily need as cited above in 2 Corinthians 11;8,9 and Philippians 4:15-17.

The fellowship or cooperative work with those who labor in the gospel comes as a result of our fellowship together in faith. A common faith and common love leads to support of preaching the one true gospel of reconciliation.

It is the desire of the church at Veterans Parkway to not only support those who labor in the gospel among the brethren here but to financially support men who preach and teach in other locations. Through the continued generous contributions of the saints here, the opportunity has come for this church to be in fellowship with other preachers of the gospel.

Harris Waterman, who lives in and preaches in Davenport, Iowa began receiving financial support from the church at Veterans Parkway this month. Our fellowship with him is not only financial. It is through prayer and works of exhortation to Brother Waterman in his work for the kingdom. If you would like to send him a message, his address is 2123 Vine St., Davenport, Iowa 52804. His email address is standing.tall.in.christ@gmail.com...
