A Mother's Blessing to Her Children: "I Want to Make Sure"

A Mother’s Blessing to Her Children:   “I Want to Make Sure…”

With each of the following blessings, there is a personal perspective placed upon how you, as a mother, is a blessing to your children.

I want to make sure I give my children a mirror.   I am a mirror to my children. My children should look at my face and see me reflecting what God is in my life. I am my children’s model (Deuteronomy 6:4-6). What my children know about God comes through me and moves their heart toward Him, the giver of every good and perfect gift (James 1:17).

I want to make sure I give my children a mission. I am not going to only give them chores to do each day. I want to give my children at least ten things I believe will help them make a difference in the world where they live. They are my disciples. I want to give them a mission as Jesus gave His disciples a mission when He placed them in the world (John 17:9-21). I refuse to allow my children to be the cause of this community and the church failing, because we did not do what God has called us to do.

I want to make sure my children hear from God every day.  It may be one verse to memorize. It may be a few verses to remember. I want them to know today and every day who God is and what God desires of us. They are words for godliness and life (2 Peter 1:3). Those words are reverent and wise. Those words will save them and never fade with time (1 Timothy 4:16;  2 Timothy 3:15). Living by those words, my children will learn courage, not fear. They will understand love, not hate. They will know giving, not taking. They will value serving, not being served.

I want to make sure God hears from my children every day.  I need to be praying before I can lead my children to pray. My need for God as a mother is my voice thanking Him for being a mother and asking Him to help me lead them to God for help each day. I need to speak to God in humility for my children to speak to Him this way. I want to speak to God in thanks, not complaint for my children to do the same. My prayers should be without ceasing for my children to unceasingly seek God’s help (1 Thessalonians 5:17). I want my children to believe God hears and response to our prayers. If my children learn submission, it will be because I submit to God every day with these words: “Teach me O God”.
